Childbirth Education Classes

Registration is required to attend all Babies First classes or tours. Space is limited, so please register early to ensure your class choices. For more information call "Babies First" at (818) 885-5434. You can print the full 2008 Babies First class schedule on the right, or just print the registration form. (Last updated October 2008)

 

This series of five classes will provide the expectant mother and her coach with important information on how to prepare for childbirth. In addition, expectant parents will learn about the emotional and physical adjustments after the birth. The Thursday classes also include Pain Management. Registration is recommended by the seventh month.

Childbirth Education Series Begin On:
Tuesday, October 14 or Thursday, October 16
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $100 per couple

NEW!! Childbirth Education Weekend Express Class
Pressed for time or looking for a refresher? Join us on a Saturday for a condensed version of the material offered in the six-week course.

Two-day course:  November 15 & 22
Time: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
 Cost: $125 per couple

Pain Management During Labor/Cesarean Childbirth
Today's expectant parents may need to be prepared for a surgical birth. This class reviews surgical procedures and techniques for decreasing pain as well as recovery strategies.

Thursday, November 6
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Cost: No Charge for Childbirth Education Series Participants
          (Non Participants pay $30 per couple)

Babies First Maternity Tour
We welcome you into our hospital with an orientation and tour of our all-inclusive BABIES FIRST program. Expectant parents will tour our state-of-the-art medical facility including viewing our private labor and delivery suites. Our helpful staff can also answer any questions you may have.

Second Wednesday of each Month, select one date:
    October 8, November 12 or December 10
 Time: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
 Cost: Free

Ready, Set, Lets Parent!
Parenthood has its challenges and sometimes we all need a little advice from the professionals. Our innovative three-part class offers tips for coping as new parents, baby safety, how to reduce hazards that cause injuries, and Pediatric Life Support (CPR). Parents will receive a certificate of participation.

Three week series begins:
Tuesday, October 7 or November 4
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Cost: $95 per couple

Breastfeeding Workshop
A must for moms who plan to breastfeed! Taught by a certified lactation consultant, this class provides pregnant women and new mothers with information to encourage a successful breastfeeding experience. Recommended before baby is born. Class size is limited. Dads are welcome!

Mondays: October 6, November 10 or December 8
Time: 7 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Cost: $40 per couple

Tiny Tots Tour
Siblings three years an older are invited to view a video of their new role, visit the newborn nursery and see where mom will be in the hospital. Children make a welcome baby gift and have hands-on experience with a life-like doll.

Thursday: November 6
Time: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: Free

Babysitting Training
This course is designed for youth 11 to 15 years old. This fun and interactive program teaches potential babysitters the skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians. Participants develop skills in leadership, business basics, indoor and outdoor safety, safe play, bathing, preparing simple meals, infant and child CPR (non-certification), and first aid.

Select one Saturday: October 4
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Cost: $75 per person

CPR en Español (Certified CPR)
Taught in Spanish by an American Heart Association (AHA) trained instructor, participants will learn lifesaving CPR techniques for infants, children and adults. Participants will receive one Spanish language AHA textbook per family and everyone receives a certification card.

Saturday: November 15
Time: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cost: $55 per person

CPR for Family and Friends (Infant & Child CPR)
Taught by an American Heart Association trained instructor, this class will teach you how to reduce hazards that cause injuries and the emergency measures needed to clear the airway and perform CPR for infants and children up to age eight. This class is for the lay rescuer such as parents and babysitters. Participants will receive a certificate of participation.

Thursday: November 13
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Cost: $40 per person

HeartSaver CPR (Certified CPR)
Learn the life-saving skills of CPR needed to potentially save children, infants and adults. Taught by an American Heart Association trained instructor, this class will teach participants how to recognize four life-threatening emergencies in adults, infants, and children. Participants will receive an American Heart Association textbook and a certification card.

Cost: $55 per person
