The Leavey Cancer Center is fully-accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology, the Association of Community Cancer Centers and the American College of Surgeons as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. As the only fully-accredited (American College of Surgeons and American College of Radiation Oncology) comprehensive cancer center in the greater San Fernando Valley, the Thomas & Dorothy Leavey Cancer Center at Northridge Hospital Medical Center has the most complete diagnosis and treatment program for cancer.

2005 Cancer Report
We are proud to announce the addition of outstanding diagnostic imaging physicians with an impressive breadth of expertise and subspecialties for diagnostic and interventional side of imaging services.
The distribution of major cancer sites at Northridge Hospital Medical Center is very interesting when compared to the distribution of similar sites in California and the United States. The percentage of new lung cancer cases is lower than the United States and California. Colorectal cancer was reported more often. The number of prostate cancer cases is significantly lower than both national and state figures. Breast cancer cases represented 18 percent of our analytical cases. Uterine cancer continue to be 1 percent less than that of the national and state figures. Melanoma is on the average 2 percent less than what California reported.
Our program provides a science-based approach to Alternative Medicine in order to guide patients who want to combine these therapies with conventional treatments. Integrative Medicine specialists work with patients and their cancer specialists to choose the most effective therapies that will not interfere with conventional therapy. At approximately 200 leading neurosurgical institutions worldwide, the Leksell Gamma Knife by Elekta delivers safe, effective and painless brain surgery without a single cut by focusing 201 beams of gamma radiation at the precise lesion or tumor in the brain. Using this technology, the surgeon can treat diseased tissue in delicate locations while sparring surrounding tissue -- an option that allows many patients to return home the same day they receive treatment.
