Extensive research endorsed by the American Stroke Association recently proved that stroke patients with fevers had a delayed recovery, possible brain damage or other complications. Until now, hospitals relied on cooling blankets and medications to reduce fevers. Both methods have limitations and can be time consuming.
Using the new CoolGard Technology, a FDA-approved Normothermia procedure, Northridge Hospital’s team of stroke experts bring a temperature down quicker, thus preserving brain tissue. It results in the protection of brain function; less complications; a quicker, more complete recovery; and a shorter hospital stay.
The Stroke Center offers advancements in treatment and rehabilitation, which have made it possible for many stroke patients to regain optimal function and quality of life. Our team of experts, including stroke neurologists, is trained to respond swiftly to administer the best treatments. Clot-dissolving drugs, such as t-PA (tissue Plasminogen Activator), may be recommended to break up the clot and restore blood flow to the brain.
